no audio in the timeline

I import clips into the project window.I can ear the sound playing in the preview window.
The same clips transferred to the source monitor window they play sound without problem but when I a transfer them to the timeline I don't see the waveform and can't ear the sound.
I checked:
-the audio track is nor muted
-also in the audio mixer
-the toggle icon is set for audio + video in the source monitor
-the properties of the clips ar all normal

Please some help

Sometimes when my timeline is very complex, I have the same problem.
I think it comes from a lack of RAM. Even a gig isn't enough. I find that rebooting the computer fixes it for a while. It may be a bug but
my work around does the trick for me. Plus it's a good chance to stretch my muscles.

Hugo, are you using .avi or .mpg files?

If you are using .avi - how did you capture them?

Thanks to all for your colaboration.
I will reinstall the programm because there are very abnormal problems.
It is not a problem of memory because I tried with a minimum of clips and with mpeg and avi and the problem remain.

I reinstalled the program but with no difference.
An other detail: In the source monitor I can ear the sound but when I toggle to see the waveform it is a straight line and I continue to listen the sound....????
