Whew!!!! I am SO glad I checked this forum this morning. I was only hours away from dropping down serious coin for Adobe Video Collection Pro this morning when I decided to just come here and read a few more posts for reassurance. Thank God I did because it seems I’ve now just saved myself a lot of money.

I built a new system 2 months ago based on AMD X2 4400+ (nVidia4 chipset) w/ Asus A8N-Sli Premium mobo, and apparently Ppro is having capture problems with X2 it sounds like. Admittedly, video editing wasn’t first and foremost while considering what hardware I was going to build with. But it's already in the past, and unfortunately changing hardware now is obviously not an option, I built a serious System with premium components.

So I’ve done several searches and read bits and pieces but no concrete, centralized information on what the official status is. From what I gather, and correct me if I wrong, Adobe hasn’t/won’t even admit there is a problem with Ppro w/ AMD X2 (I also tried searching Adobe KB but they still seem to NOT have added any info in the KB regarding the potential issue either). I assume this means there won’t be an official fix anytime soon.

Can anyone explain what exactly the current issue and status is? I did see there was a potential work around via the Processor Affinity dialog accessed through Task Manager, but is this a solid work around, or has it not helped resolve the issue in some cases?

I can’t tell you how excited I was waking up this morning thinking this was the day I was ordering Adobe Video Collection Pro, and the start to something really exciting… now the only thing matching the level of that excitement is the disappointment I am feeling at the moment. Is there any hope for us AMD X2 users for the NEAR future? Thanks in advance.

Jim

Jim, download the PPro tryout version and test capturing for yourself. You may be pleasantly surprised. Links are in the PPro Wiki.Cheers

From what others have said, if you set Ppro's affinity to 1 processor core for capturing, it works properly. I have not tested this because I am in the middle of rendering but I will try it soon.

Dear Jim
I have dual core processor on new evesham computer. Solved unknown recorder error by doing the following
Open Premiere and minimize it.
Control Alt Delete
Task Manager box appears
Select processors
Find Adobe Premiere and right click it (not SYSTEM)
Then click on set affinity
Untick either CPU and OK

It solved my problem. But don't know why we should have to do this!!

Hope this helps Pete

I have AMD X2 4800+ w/ ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo. I capture with no problem using PPro 1.5 I don't have to use the Task Manager/affinity work around. I've never had to use that workaround for any functions in premiere Pro. Further, I've never seen any error of any kind.

I would follow Eddie's advice and download the free tryout. OK, so there is one thing I have to do... I have two IEEE 1394 ports. One of them is on the Audigy Soundblaster card and one of them is built into the motherboard. The soundcard port doesn't capture, but the one built into the mobo works like a charm. JimC69 probably has the same IEEE 1394 port on his Premium mobo that I have on my Deluxe. You should be in good shape JimC69!

I would like to add one more thought to my message above. I do not believe that my inability to use the 1394 port on my sound card has anything to do with my dual core processor. I think it is some sort of an incompatibility with the sound card 1394 port since I have no troubles at all with my onboard/mobo 1394 port.

Just curious... Is there anybody out there who has an AMD dual core using PPro 1.5 without any trouble (without using the task manager/affinity work around)or am I the only lucky one??
