I have been using Premiere Pro now for some years and have had many of the usual bugs and problems, but this is a new one on me...

I am working on a project on one computer, transfer all the files to an external hard drive, then transfer onto a second computer.

I can open the project and it begins conforming the audio. I have about 50 video clips in my bins and 4 sequences. After about 15mins its seems to have finished conforming audio, but then when I try to playback the timeline on ANY of the sequences, nothing happens.

I have tried three different machines, all with decent specs.

Am I missing something obvious??

ALSO....

I am having problems with mini DV cameras. I can capture ok but when I try to play the timeline through the camera to a monitor, i get no picture. I have tried 3 different panasonic miniDV cameras, an XL1, all the same.

The cameras are all DV in as I have exported to tape with them before.

I also tried a couple different firewire leads, the on-board firewire port and the firewire card.

The other strange thing is that the playback settings (when you go to the menu on the preview monitor) is greyed out, yet I can access it through the project settings

any ideas??

I have a maybe simular problem with audio. I edit my item (on a canopus storm 2), put some music and a voice-over underneath it, export to tape -- and then put it on a second pc. This second pc is a Hp with matrox card, in a local tv-studio. Strangest thing: on the time-line in this new project the voice-over can still be heard, but in the broadcast at home it has disappeared!!!!!!!!

My colleges and me are desperate.

Anybody with help and advice?

greetings, chantal.

If you still have the external drive hooked up to your 1394 port... sometimes it will not play back the audio. Disconnect the drive.

ATechie, one thing springs to mind - are you using a codec on your original machine that isn't present on the others?

Chantal, I'm sorry, I don't really understand what you're describing. You say you export the project to tape then 'put it on another PC'. Do you mean you capture it again? If you're transferring the project from one machine to another I'd wonder about the codec issue here as well. The Matrox cards have their own codec for captured footage and I dare say the Canopus is the same.

Yes Jon,

capture it again on the other pc, in our studio. The strange thing is it doesnt make any difference how i export at home from my own pc - i mean external hard drive, or tape (i have different camera's) - all my voice-overs disappear in our broadcast. All the other editors work at home as well, and they do not have the problem that i have. I make many items, never any problems, but only the vocie-overs disappear. They can still be heard in the studio after being put on the time-line, but after that they go.........i dont know where.

We make lokal television, the program is aired.

I tried avoiding the problem by putting the audio twice on the time-line, that worked only ONCE..... weird.

Disappearing voice can be caused by a reversed phase in two streams of mono. Play on stereo and it sounds OK. Play it on mono and the voice vanishes. Cure - reverse the phase of one of the mono channels and check the wiring to avoid a repeat.

Take a look at this thread - it covers a lot of what Jon Gritton is trying to describe:

I can't see it being a codec problem...

I can start a NEW project and import a avi clip. It plays fine. If I import the old project, again it conforms audio for ages then refuses to play.

I have tried different user accounts, re-booting, working from local and external drives, disconnecting external drives etc.

I have also tried using the rendered files and cfa files from my original project, and also creating new ones.

I seem to randomly get the 'serious error' message aswell. Mostly if I try to export to movie or adobe media encoder.

Have tried a fresh install of XP and Prem Pro 1.0 too.

Its really annoying me now :(

my next attempt is to start prem pro with the shift key pressed (fingers crossed)!!
