XP Media center?

Exactly what is your idea of editing HD? Do you have a HD camcorder? Or
are you capturing HD broadcast via capture card?

A serious distinction, for SD as well. The real factor may be whether
the editing will involve any more than sequencing and transitioning between
existing scenes. If the source material has been professional/artistically
edited, all that you will want to do is remove sections (or change the
sequencing).

If you have material from a camcorder or other unedited source material
for a movie that you will be putting together into a dramatic story, then
you
will be using an "editing" package in an artistic fashion and making use of
timing and effects. If you are producing a video record for simple and
quick distribution or storage; (most "Home Movies") then the "editing"
required is just (sequencing) "cut&join" with some titling and the use of
a few transitions.

Unless you are trying to add dramatic effect to a story being told with
video&audio, you don't need, or have any use for, a fancy and expensive
"Editing Package". ( And if you are; then the shooting and the editing
need to a coordinated, planed effort.) [To many, the true examples of
the best "film making", used the least "effects" in editing; the classic
Black& White movies for example.]

Can I assume that since you posted this to "adobe.premier.pro.win"
as well, that you will be using that program (with the plug-in) to do
this editing? If so, isn't there a listing of the required and preferred
system specifications, at the Adobe web site? How about hardware
support to timeline editing?

Luck;
Ken

I haven't attempted it yet, I read how dual dual cores will be required for
high HD, it comes in many flavors, right, 720, 1080i, 1080p etc...
and I would think it would also depend on the software, maybe more efficient
software can be written that doesn't require complete new PC's but maybe
hardware add in cards will come out like they did before software could have
SD video?
Right now, depends on what type of HD you want to edit, what software and
then read it's minimum system requirements.

I am using and opteron 165 (overclocked to 2.1ghz) and it works fine
for HDV editing of Aspect HD captured footage.
Don't expect a lot of real-time effects or anything though.

Probably a good choice would be the new Athlon 64 FX60.
It's not cheap, but very fast. Haven't seen it in action
with HDV (maybe at IBC).

I am also fond of Edius NX HD...hardware and software combination. The is a
very reliable and powerful prosumer solution.

I am not so big a fan of Adobe products and Premiere in particular.
