No Video in Preview Window

When I playback or capture video clip (in Premiere Pro 1.5, Windows XP Pro), there is no video displayed in the preview (or capture) window. Audio still plays fine.

If I move the timeline marker to a speciffic spot, it will display that frame, but goes black as soon as I start playing. If I move the monitor window around while it's playing then it will display, so it's as if the video window is not refreshing.

The output from the capture card to an external monitor plays fine.

I've tried multiple projects and video clips. I've also tried the same projects on another system using the same capture card, and they work just fine. I have the newest drivers for the video card, capture card, and DirectX 9.0c is installed.

Hardware:
Dual AMD Opteron
1 GB RAM
nVidia Quadro FX 550
Canopus DVStorm Capture card

The video output is controlled by the DVStorm. Look there to provide the answer.

So, the output to the computer monitor (within Premiere) is controlled by the DVStorm as well? If this is the case, why would the video to an external monitor from a connection on the DVStorm work fine when the display to the computer monitor doesn't?

Please let me know if you fix this, because I am having the same problem with my Canopus DVStorm2, if I use a Canopus project preset I don't get a picture in either the capture or prieview window.

I have just tried a normal DV preset if I capture from the storm I don't get a picture in my capture window but I dot get one in my preview window.

Tomorrow I will try to capture from normal firewire and see if I get a picture in the capture window, if I do I will let you know.

Then we will have to workout what next!

If you use MS DV clips in a Canopus project, or if you use Canopus DV clips in an MS DV project ... you will get the effect you describe.

I've noticed this problem with Premiere Elements 1.0. Sometimes the monitor window goes black when playing back from the timeline but audio seems fine. I a new to DV video and would appreciate any help.

I've just tried capturing from a normal firewire and everything works fine, I do have a new computer with a PCI express graphics card and wonder if this could be the problem.

Hi,

I had a similar problem with Adobe Premiere Elements 1.0. Like William Miller I have an ATI card in my Pentium 4 computer. On advise I downloaded DirectX 4.0C. I already had it installed on the computer. Nonetheless I felt the new install important. Also, I defragmented the hard drive. This was done using the defragment tool that comes with Windows XP Pro. The Autosave Feature in Premiere Elements 1.0 was reset from the default of 20 minutes to 5 minutes. This is found in the project by going to Edit/Preferences/Autosave. Make sure the box next to "Automatically Save Projects" is checked. Change the save time to "Save Every 5 Minutes". I also noticed that Adobe recommends that QuikTime be version 6.5.2.
Once I did the above I noticed that Premiere Elements works smoother and I no longer have problems with the monitor window turning black when I try to play from the timeline. At least it seems happy now.

I hope this helps.
